Dr. Martens x The Met

In one of our latest projects with Dr. Martens, we brought to life their collaboration with The Met Museum. Honouring legendary Japanese painter and printmaker Katsushika Hokusai - true icons coming together.

When Hokusai created his instantly recognisable 36 Views of Mount Fuji series in 1831 he was unknowingly breaking down elitism in the art world. These 36 landscape prints were designed to be accessible to all - engaging people who otherwise may have never seen it. This collaboration is the latest in Dr Martens’ ongoing series with The Met, celebrating culture, community and art.

Dr. Martens' partnership with Hokusai was all about keeping his against-the-grain energy alive and highlighting how his creative spirit never faltered. It was founded on the simple idea that art should be available, and inspirational for anyone. Reprinting his most recognisable works from this series is a tribute to the enduring quality of art, nature and Dr. Martens’ boots.

We delivered a shoot that incorporated the motions of waves and cherry blossoms found in this series, to capture Hokusai’s energy. And what better place to draw inspiration from than the home of art, The Met Museum in New York.

We took visual and audio queues from the tranquil and harmonious space in The Chinese Garden Court, utilising elements of natural light, water reflections and regionally relevant instruments for an ethereal feel.

With the collection launching over Black Friday weekend, the teaser campaign has been rolled out across the globe, in the US, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Our visuals will be displayed online, in-store, on socials and in promotional materials and media.
